‘High Street Transition’ is the first project within the idea and concept of ‘Public Art Space’. It took place in Vladicin Han in Serbia on 4th August 2011. In the spirt of the idea of ‘Public Art Space’ that tries to animate the local population and connect them with the public space in which they live through artistic and cultural activities, this event gathered local and international artists from various backgrounds.
The topic of this event was the main street of Vladicin Han which was used as an exhibition space. In the context of the idea of the main street as a reflection of the social and cultural profile of a town, each participant was asked to touch upon the main street in the most direct way using the existing physical space of the street for exhibition purposes. The artists were free to choose a mode of expression and orientation, so they could transform the space with an installation, a graphic or painting technique, or use other audio-visual options.
This exhibition used the exteriors and interiors of the main street for exhibition purposes under the assumption that is the culture of the accumulated experience. Going out to town is the most natural relationship between the gallery and the audience except that the gallery does not expose the audience to exhibits unlike the street.
